With the end of the semester and commencement, most students are entering a well-earned break from classes or moving on from their educations into the professional world. To this year's graduates, the University Journal Editorial Board extends congratulations and best wishes.
Onward and Upward! To the members of the Class of 2008, I extend my heartiest congratulations on the singular accomplishment of graduating from Southern Utah University. With this milestone in your life now achieved, you are marked for other successes ahead.
(Posted April 15) April 4 marked the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. Although King is most known for his magnanimous campaign for civil rights and his famous "I Have a Dream" speech that capped that campaign, I encourage reading or listening to one of his lesser-known speeches that he gave exactly one year previous to his assassination entitled "We Must Speak."
(Posted April 7) With a mere three weeks (or so) left in the semester, Spring 2008's Campus Critique is on its way to wrapping up - though I intend to continue this blog during Summer 2008. However, despite any implications stemming from the semester's end and the return home for many traditional students, there will still be issues of importance both generally to university students and specifically to SUU students.
While Cedar City's four distinct seasons make it a year-round joy for many, summer has always been something particularly special here. There is always an excitingly distinctive atmosphere in the area during the summer months and much of it can be traced to the symbiotic relationship between the SUU campus and the general community at large.
(Posted April 1) In America, one of the most celebrated rights is the free press. The democracy of this nation has been founded on an ideal that essentially everyone's opinion is valid.
